New firmware update by Leapfrog

Leapfrog has made a major firmware update (v2.2) for the Leapfrog Creatr HS 3D printer. The features of the new firmware(v2.2) include stand-alone calibration, bed calibration, easy firmware updates and new temperature settings.

The older firmware versions relied basically on the use of Simple 3D software to calibrate the printer. But the new firmware has an improved homing sequence, bed calibration and a printer information screen and retains the ability to run the printer via computer/laptop for additional control.

The new firmware has a simple bed calibration function running through the onboard colour display. The wizard makes use of the tried and tested paper method utilized by Ultimaker and the MakerBot Replicator 2 to set the z-gap in all 4 corners of the print bed and level the build plate. This is considered to be a much easier process than connecting via USB cable and using the Simplify3D software to control the bed height.

There is no need for USB cables for updating, as the latest firmware update can copy files onto USB stick when it is popped right in front of the printer. The new temperature settings are particularly useful when printing materials with temperature sensitivity like that of PVA . Overall, the new firmware update has made many improvements to increase its usability and has more streamlined processes.
